Las Vegas Handyman

las vegas handymanBeing a Las Vegas handyman isn't easy. Handymen are asked to do a wide variety of jobs, some of which they can do, and some they can't. What homeowners need to consider is if a handyman in Las Vegas should be doing some of the jobs they ask.

Many handyman services are simply people that are currently out of work from their normal professions. They are waiting out the storm until the economy improves to the point they can go back to their normal jobs. Consumers should be very careful. Many of these "companies" are 1 man shops that are not properly licensed or insured. They work (and sometimes live) out of the back of their pick-up trucks. If they fall off of a ladder at your home, your homeowner's insurance gets to pay the bill when they file a lawsuit against you. Many of them will say they are licensed, but in reality it is only a business license. Anyone with $25.00 and an ink pen can get a business license.

It is safest to use a professional company with a State contractors license. They are held to a higher standard than an unlicensed company.

Just because someone places an advertisement in the yellow pages doesn't make them legal or qualified to do the job. Additionally, approximately half of those yellow page ads have phone numbers that have been disconnected.

I am very aware of the current economic climate and the fact that consumers really don't want to spend money if they don't have to. But really, a roofing repair should be completed by a licensed roofing company. The economy has found some contractors doing work that is out of their normal scope, because their trade has slowed way down.

Some good advice is to use professional companies that have been referred to you. Friends and neighbors are usually a great source of quality, price, and service.

SOME OF WHAT YOU SAY IS TRUE BUT MOST IS GARBAGE.IT ALL COMES DOWN TO WHO CAN STROKE OUT THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS TO THE STATE AND CITIES.JUST BECAUSE YOU HOLD A "CONTRACTORS LICENSE" DOESN'T MEAN YOU DO GOOD WORK! I CAN BE BONDED & INSURED WITH NO CONTRACTORS LICENSE.I UNDERSTAND THERES ALOT OF PEOPLE DOING BAD WORK AND FULL OF BS. ITS BECAUSE OF THIS I CAN GO TO JAIL BECAUSE I DONT HAVE THE THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS THE CROOKS OF NEVADA WANT FROM ME.I'VE BEEN IN MOST TRADES OF CONSTRUCTION FOR THE PAST 15 YEARS.I HAVE THE SKILL TO REPAIR A ROOF SYSTEM(FRAMING TO SHINGLES)BUT I OWN A TILE COMPANY SO I HAVE TO PAY PAY PAY TO FIX A SHINGLE.THE STATE WANTS ABOUT $5500 A YEAR FROM ME TO BE"LEGAL..$$$"IN NV.THIS DOESNT MEAN I WILL FIND WORK WHICH IS WHY SO MANY ARE DOING "ODD JOBS" AND WORKING ILEAGALY SO THEY CAN FEED THERE FAMILY.IT IS A SHAME THAT PEOPLE CANT BE TRUE TO THERE WORD AND DO GOOD WORK BECAUSE ITS COSTING ME.

So what exactly is your license for? I just called the Nevada State Contractors Board, and there is no actual license for a handyman in Nevada...so are you a licensed plumber or electrician or are you licensed to......what?

Working in consturction for 23 years in Las Vegas.

THERE IS NO HANDYMAN CONTRACTORS license in the state of nevada!!!

If you have a general liscense you shall Not do the work. only hire other licensed contractors. If You have a remodelers license you may only do 3 contractors skills and still have to hire other liscensed contractors.

The fact that several of you brag about hiring you as a licensed contractors which is a lie.

Now the real problem is the customers! Yes it's true you should have a business license and insurance for the type of work you do, But this comes with a cost to your business. But if our customers here in Nevada want top quality work backed with licenses then they need to pay for it

What you here everyday is: Are you

a professional and i only want to pay 12.00 an hour AS a CUSTOMER YOU CAN NOT HAVE BOTH!!!

cheap pay get you shoty work

With 100% of the construction work force out of work everybody is a handyman to which 98% of them do not have the skills or are qualified and are just out to make a buck.

The key is to convince the customer base, that hiring their friends kid as a side job when he arleady has a job( taking work away from us). or hiring cheap labor, that it would be better to save thier pennies for a few more days and hire the real pros at a fair price.

This will weed out the fakes, the less knowledgable, and the hacks.

Too many cutomers have had to have things done more then once becuase they don't know better and because of their atitude and wallet. I would not proceed to tell the doctor how to do his job or how much we'll pay him Yet we get this from customers everyday

For Me starting at 8.00 an back in 1970 and now I suppose to except 12.00 in 2012 makes me wonder why i still do what i do
